**English** **_Entertaining, but disapointing_** In this film, directed by Steven Spielberg, Earth is attacked by aliens with gigantic mechanical tripods, in a contemporary approach to HG Wells' science fiction novel and a remake of a 1953 film of the same name. Tom Cruise took the lead role, Ray Ferrier, a father who seeks to put his daughter, Rachel (Dakota Fanning) in a safe place. Although Steven Spielberg has used enough computer special effects and half death of mankind, this film is not only a calamity but the drama of a father who wants to save his daughter from the alien invasion, a subject that has been the subject of several films. In fact, most of them have been, directly or indirectly, influenced by the "War of the Worlds" ("Independence Day", just to name one). Tension follows the entire film, where action scenes and special effects mingle with suspense and anticipation, animated by scenes that remind us of the Holocaust or 9/11. The two main characters easily captivate the public's sympathies and make us more anxious and attentive to the film, which is good. Tom Cruise managed to do very well in his role, despite a certain ambiguity of the character, who only thinks of running away in the first half of the film and passes the second half acting as the hero of "Mission Impossible", without understanding because it changes attitude. Another problem is Dakota Fanning, who spends more than half of the film screaming hysterically. For all this, this film leaves some critics a little disappointed, eventually being nominated for an Oscar in technical categories (sound editing, sound mixing and special effects). Commercially, however, it was a success, largely due to Spielberg and Cruise's fame but also because of the special effects and the fact that it achieved its main goal: entertaining those who paid to see it.
