(CASTELLANO) The Running Man arranca como una película de acción muy directa, pero lo que engancha de verdad es lo fácil que resulta creerse el mundo que plantea. No es una distopía lejana ni sofisticada: es un futuro reconocible, casi inmediato, donde las grandes corporaciones mandan, el entretenimiento lo devora todo y la violencia se vende como si fuera un evento deportivo más. Y lo hace con un ritmo tan alto que, como me pasó a mí, se te olvida el sueño. Edgar Wright juega aquí a dos bandas. Por un lado, ofrece puro espectáculo: persecuciones, adrenalina constante, montaje afilado y una sensación de carrera contrarreloj que no afloja. Por otro, deja caer una crítica bastante clara al circo mediático, a la manipulación de la opinión pública y a cómo el sistema convierte el sufrimiento en contenido. No siempre profundiza todo lo que podría, pero tampoco se esconde. La película funciona especialmente bien cuando se deja llevar por su lado más físico y urgente. Hay una energía constante, casi agotadora, que te mantiene dentro incluso cuando algunas ideas se quedan a medio camino. Es cierto que en ciertos momentos parece más interesada en seguir corriendo que en mirar atrás y rematar lo que plantea, pero el viaje es tan entretenido que cuesta reprochárselo. Glen Powell sostiene el conjunto con bastante carisma. No necesita ser un héroe clásico ni un símbolo perfecto: basta con que resulte creíble dentro de ese engranaje salvaje. El reparto y el tono acompañan, y Wright demuestra que sabe moverse en el blockbuster sin perder del todo su personalidad, aunque aquí esté más contenida que en otros trabajos suyos. Puede que no sea tan demoledora como promete su premisa, ni tan incisiva como el material original invitaba a pensar, pero como experiencia funciona de maravilla. Es de esas películas que se disfrutan mientras ocurren, que te mantienen pegado a la pantalla y que, cuando terminan, te dejan con la sensación incómoda de que no todo lo que has visto está tan lejos de hacerse realidad. This isn’t a distant or sophisticated dystopia: it’s a recognizable, almost immediate future where big corporations rule, entertainment devours everything, and violence is sold like just another sporting event. And it does so at such a relentless pace that, as happened to me, you forget you were even tired. Edgar Wright plays a double game here. On one hand, he delivers pure spectacle: chases, constant adrenaline, sharp editing, and a ticking-clock feeling that never lets up. On the other, he drops a fairly clear critique of media circus culture, public opinion manipulation, and how the system turns suffering into content. It doesn’t always dig as deep as it could, but it never hides what it’s pointing at. The film works best when it leans into its most physical and urgent side. There’s a constant, almost exhausting energy that keeps you locked in, even when some ideas don’t fully land. It’s true that at times it feels more interested in keep running forward than in looking back and fully closing what it sets up, but the ride is so entertaining that it’s hard to hold that against it. Glen Powell carries the whole thing with solid charisma. He doesn’t need to be a classic hero or a flawless symbol; he just needs to feel believable inside this brutal machine. The cast and tone support him well, and Wright proves he can handle blockbuster scale without completely losing his personality, even if it’s more restrained here than in some of his previous work. It may not be as devastating as its premise promises, nor as incisive as the source material suggests, but as an experience it works extremely well. It’s one of those movies you enjoy while it’s happening, that keeps you glued to the screen and leaves you, when it’s over, with the uncomfortable feeling that not everything you’ve seen is that far from becoming reality.
